NEW MEXICO

New Mexico's sun-soaked soil and cool high-desert nights frame the modern return of wine making to the oldest wine producing region in the country. High desert climate and ideal soil from the fertile regions of Mesilla Valley, Middle Rio Grande Valley, Mimbres Valley and Rio Grande Valley feed Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Johannisburg Riesling, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and other classic grapes and fruits to produce award-winning wines.

The first grapevines planted in what is now the state of New Mexico were brought in 1629 to Senecu, a Piro Indian pueblo south of Socorro, by Fray Gracia de Zuniga, a Franciscan, and Antonio de Arteaga, a Capuchin monk. San Antonio de Padua Mission, at Senecu, was located on the east bank of the Rio Grande, slightly north of the present small village of San Antonio.

GRAPE CREEK VINEYARDS

10587 East Highway 290
Fredricksburg, TX 78624
Phone: (830) 644-2710
Website: grapecreek.com

Who We Are: The rolling hills and distant vistas of the Texas Hill Country are reminiscent of the growing regions of Italy and the Rhone country in Southern France. Grape Creek Vineyards started as a vineyard, even before there was any wine production. At one point there were 25 acres of Cabernet and Chardonnay. However, in the 1990’s a blight (most likely Pierce’s disease) wiped out a decade of work. However, from tragedy came new opportunities. The winery began to focus on identifying grapes from growers that would produce the best varietal and blended wines. This has resulted in an approach that has yielded superior, award-winning wines.
Wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Fum Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Muscat Canelli, White Zinfandel, Riesling.
